Winemaker and Owner, Phillip Staehle, created Enkidu to produce wines of outstanding character, and to get back to “...working with my hands, to use all of my senses, and live and work according to the seasons of the year.” Distinctive and expressive, Enkidu wines are carefully crafted and nurtured: the product of our commitment to make the best wines possible.
The origin or meaning of the name “Enkidu” (En-Kuh-Doo) comes from the oldest story ever written, the Epic of Gilgamesh. The story originated in Sumeria (Iraq) almost 4,000 years ago. Enkidu, created by the gods, was the lover of land and protector of animals. He embodied strength and passion, with incredible bravery, and yet at times was truly fearful of unknown dangers.
